Hi Reader,
When Claude answers in a wall of asterisks and pound signs, there's a one-sentence fix going around โ ask for an HTML page instead. Same answer, suddenly readable. Who wants to look at markdown, really? โ
Our last Social Saturday was full of tips, mostly about turning the questions around. Get AI to interview you, one question at a time, instead of hunting for a perfect prompt. Tell it how to ask โ multiple choice if open-ended questions stall you, and no compliments while it's at it. One member keeps a NotebookLM advisory board loaded with thinkers she trusts, and interrupts the audio mid-episode to push back.
โ None of this came from a manual, and none of it takes a subscription upgrade or a weekend of tutorials. It takes plain words and the nerve to ask for what you want โ which, around She Leads AI, has never been in short supply.
โ Warmly, Kate She Leads AI โ โTiptoeing into your inbox all summer ๐พ with The SLAI Effect โ talk to you in the next one.
P.S. Social Saturday is back August 8, so here's something to work through on your own until then โ the AI Authority Builder connects the expertise you already hold to the AI work only you could do. Free, nothing to install, and nobody watching over your shoulder.

๐ข She Leads AI Society Members Making an Impact โ
Sonia Kentaro has spent her career asking whether the controls hold. She built that instinct in risk assurance across three continents โ seven years at PwC in Kampala, then London with EY and KPMG, where she led a twenty-person team testing more than 4,500 controls at Lloyds Banking Group and ran audits for Shell, Tesco, and McDonald's. In 2021 she founded VeridianTech in Uganda to bring data-driven advisory to organizations across Africa, then paused it to earn a master's in Data and AI Strategy. Now she is turning an auditor's eye on AI itself. At Ascend AI Labs she led a six-person team through Thunderbird's Global Challenge Lab, designing an AI governance strategy for mid-market companies anchored in a Responsible AI Framework and mapped to a $20M revenue opportunity. Her throughline is trust โ twenty years spent making sure complex work can be held to account, now pointed squarely at AI.
Sara Kirwin spent twenty years in information management at the U.S. Department of Justice, after starting out wiring Cisco networks for federal facilities and running telecommunications at JPMorganChase. She knows how large institutions move, and where technology stalls when the people meant to use it are left to sort it out alone. In September 2025 she left government to launch Team by Team, helping nonprofits, civic associations, and community-serving organizations adopt AI without losing themselves in it. A graduate of the Certified AI Educator and AI Consulting Accelerator programs at She Leads AI, she runs half-day literacy workshops that end with a working prompt the team built together, a four-week fluency sprint that produces the AI use policy and playbook a board keeps asking for, and fractional support for groups rebuilding around AI. Her stance is deliberate โ she does not train individuals who will move on, she builds team capability that lasts.
Maiya Holliday builds the websites that let purpose-driven organizations get on with their work. She started in the field, directing volunteer programs for Global Service Corps in Tanzania before she ever called herself a developer. She taught herself the web on the way back, moved through front-end roles at mission-minded startups, and in 2009 founded Mangrove Web, a Certified B Corp she has run for seventeen years with a global team across Oakland, Truckee, and Winnipeg. The agency builds brand identities and accessible websites for socially and environmentally conscious clients, with digital accessibility treated as the baseline rather than a feature added at the end. Now she is steering Mangrove through what she calls the largest shift in those seventeen years โ building tools for her team and moving toward a deliberate, ethical approach to AI and custom software for clients. Her throughline is access โ making the web, and now AI, usable by the people trying to do good.

๐ Worth a Share
Abi Awomosu, She Leads AI member and former Big Tech data leader, wrote How Not To Use AI, 50 contrarian principles for working with AI as a medium you craft with instead of a machine you command. After 20 years inside companies like Meta and Apple, she argues the exhaustion so many of us feel with AI isn't a skills gap โ it's a signal worth reading. Her free AI archetype quiz takes about 15 minutes and shows you which of eight patterns describes how you're using AI right now.
