“I’m personally a very kinetic learner. I’m gonna get in here, break something, put it back together. That’s just how I work.” —Tyler Fisk, CEO & Co-Founder of AI Build Lab
Hi Reader,
Something keeps happening.
Every time a new AI tool arrives, I feel a little spark of wonder. It's this amazing sense of possibility, of doors opening that I didn't even know existed. But almost immediately, there's this low, creeping sense of disorientation. Like the ground shifted slightly, and suddenly I'm scrambling again, wondering how I've managed to fall behind.
Talking with Tyler Fisk last week helped a lot—not because he had some wild take, but because of the way he's navigating this world. He didn't show up with impressive credentials or a perfect grasp of everything AI. He came into it with curiosity and started building, and that really resonated with me.
What we're seeing right now with AI—these agents, companions, all these no-code workflows—is fundamentally changing who gets to create and how they do it. Tyler reminded me that readiness might be less about having all the right tools and more about staying in motion and following our curiosity even when the destination isn't clear.
I'm still unpacking that for myself—and for us.

AI is often pitched as a shortcut for writing. (That’s why we’re so upset about em dashes, right?)
But what if it could be a thought partner? What does that actually look like in practice?
As I worked on a long, complex research report, I used AI not to write for me — but to write WITH me. It was my volleying partner that kept me going when I needed to bounce around ideas and figure out how to get moving again.
From outlining early drafts to refining transitions and surfacing patterns, I used it the way I might use a trusted colleague or editor: to reflect, prompt, and help me move forward.
This post walks through five specific writing challenges I faced and how AI helped me stay aligned with my thinking, not hand it over.
If you’re navigating your own big writing project, this might offer some helpful ways to bring AI into the process. (PDF opens in Google Drive.)

Where do our ideas really come from?
The mind? The heart? A thread of something deeper?
This week, I found myself craving space to reconnect with the source—
